ROCHESTER, N.Y. — World class bike racing is taking over the Flower City this weekend.
Professional cyclocross racers from around the world are here for the 17th annual Rochester Cyclocross Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) at Genesee Valley Park.
On the Rochester Cyclocross website, it describes cyclocross as “off-road bike race mixed with a steeplechase running race.”
The event is a part of a bigger four-event series known as the “TREK USCX Cyclocross Series,” which makes stops in Wisconsin, Maryland, Baltimore, and here in Rochester.
“It’s nice to see people from outside our region come to Rochester and enjoy what we can produce here,” said Scott Page, who is the executive director of Rochester Cyclocross.
Page says the course at Genesee Valley is almost like two separate courses. He says one part is very smooth and fast, while the other half is technical and super close to mountain biking.
UCI Class one, which is considered the highest level of cyclocross, raced on Saturday. Class two is set to race Sunday.
The event is free for people looking to watch. The Rohrbach Brewing Company Beer Garden will be there, along with music, food trucks, and more.
